MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT
Mileage Reimbursement Directive
Annually, the LBOA endeavors to recruit and develop competent officials from all across the region. Currently, our membership is approximately 25-strong, and our drawing area stretching from Maidstone, SK to Wainwright, AB – with the majority coming from within the city limits of Lloydminster. Geographically, our membership makes a significant commitment in travel time to provide the schools in this region with both certified and competent officials.
This Mileage Reimbursement Directive adopted by the Lloydminster Basketball Officials Association (LBOA) strives to provide balance between our two fundamental goals, which are;
-
Provide our officials with fair compensation for distances travelled to officiate basketball games.
-
Provide our clients with competent officials while doing our best to keep their mileage costs to a minimum.
Client schools across our service area must be willing to accept that these priorities will be at the forefront of all assigning decisions made by the LBOA. Client schools must also accept that assigning decisions are an internal matter and that there will be situations when additional mileage costs may have to be levied in order to get games covered. Additionally, how and why various officials are paired is at the sole discretion of the Association. We will not consult with our clients in advance of any of these decisions.
It is a long season, and the principle of “the law of averages” must be acknowledged. Sometimes a specific double-header will be more expensive than the majority of the other double-headers over the season, simply because of a shortage of officials that particular day.
Client schools of the LBOA have been paying for officials to travel to officiate their games for over a decade. This document simplifies the process and provides an explanation of these costs for both our membership and our clients.
Directive
Travel compensation is based on the kilometers driven by each official from and back to their home community (or work place if this is closer), in order to cover a particular competition assigned by the LBOA.
-
Competition is defined as any combination of the following:
-
Single game; a double header; a triple header, a tournament
-
-
Those officials living within a 15km radius of the city limits will be exempt of this policy, ~ unless ~ the location of the game is even further away from Lloydminster proper.
-
Google Maps will be referenced to determine distances
-
Mileage rates will be levied regardless of the day of the week of the contest(s).
-
Mileage rates will remain the same throughout the season.
-
Client’s will be invoiced .50 cents per km per approved official
-
-
When convenient to both parties, partner officials will travel to sites together in order to save clients’ money. However, clients should not have this as an ‘expectation’.Many of our officials come from different parts of the region and have busy lives.
-
In the circumstance of partners travelling together, mileage will be compensated in the following manner:
-
The driver will receive 80% of the total distance travelled based on the normal rate listed above, and
-
The passenger will receive 20% of the normal rate listed above to and from whatever point they joined journey.
-
-
In the circumstance of a tournament requiring only three officials over the full day, two vehicles will be sent to the event.
-
driver’s will receive 80% of the total distance travelled based on the normal rate listed above, and
-
The passenger will receive 20% of the normal rated listed above to and from whatever point they joined journey
-
Note 1 - This policy will be revisited at the conclusion of each season for accuracy and effectiveness.
Note 2 - It is expected that each member official will review the mileage details at the point the assignment is accepted. In addition, he/she will communicate to the assignor if his/her travel circumstances need to be modified (i.e. he/she will be driving from somewhere closer to the city, or he/she would be able to pick-up their referee partner, will not be able to travel together, etc).
